Suuchi, Inc. : Making it in America

It’s a common struggle to go from store to store shopping for clothing, only to constantly be met with fitting issues. When most people struggle to find their fit, their solution is typically to try other companies or enlist the help of a tailor. However, Suuchi Ramesh decided to do something different and in the process started a business that would provide almost 100 men and women in the Jersey City and North Bergen area with jobs in an industry that had almost disappeared from the American Economy.

Ramesh initially began in 2015 with a modest staff of 3 seamstresses creating custom clothing for people with unique sizes. Since then, Suuchi Inc. has grown to train and employ pattern makers, account managers, and quality control managers to produce thousands of clothing units each month for businesses within the USA and beyond!

Charmingly Conscious sat down with Tammy Prunty, the Director of Strategic Partnerships at Suuchi Inc.  for a brief interview and tour of their production floor located in North Bergen, New Jersey. It was clear from beginning that Suuchi Inc. is dedicated to standing behind their “Made In America” labeling by choosing to source all of their fabrics and material from suppliers based within the USA. It is from these partnerships, they are able to provide a wide array of production options for Business companies and Fashion Designers.

The production team is overseen by clothing production professionals such as Miguel Astacio who has over 34 years of experience in clothing manufacturing and passes on his experiences to the students who enlist in Suuchi University, the 6 month paid training program Ramesh and team have developed to introduce new workers into the reemerging American Fashion industry.  Suuchi University is an amazing program not only because it pays enrollees as they are learning the trade, there is also a high opportunity for continued work as Suuchi, Inc. is looking to expand their staff of 100 to 250 by the end of 2018!

Even with a moderately large staff, the production floor feels more like a family gathering with plenty of warm smiles as the sound of laughter mingles with the hum of the machines.
